What is Asbestos?

A natural mineral found in rock in various countries around the world, it provides mases of strong, flexible fibres which can easily be separated into threads and woven.

The map below shows many of the areas of the world where asbestos can be found*.
Chrysotile (white asbestos) Amosite (brown asbestos) and Crocidolite (blue asbestos) were the most common types used in ACMs (asbestos containing materials)

In some countries where asbestos is not banned it is still actively mined today.
